About Distance Education

Take a class at your convenience

Distance Education supports and extends the outreach goals of the University of Utah by meeting the credit, continuing professional education, and enrichment needs of people locally, nationally, and internationally. Distance Ed is a flexible way to obtain college credit, complete required continuing education units in a specific profession, or to simply expand a student's general knowledge. Distance Education solves a number of problems some students encounter, including conflicting work schedules, limited transportation, and family commitments. Distance Education provides quality courses online, in print, and through broadcast television. Some courses are semester-based and require admission to the University of Utah; others have open-entry/open exit enrollment sessions and can be completed by anyone at times and places that work for them. However, keep in mind that college-level learning at a distance requires self-motivation, self-discipline, and the ability to set your own deadlines – and meet them!

Distance Education's college credit courses typically reflect their campus counterparts in content and rigor. We develop and deliver high quality courses accepted for credit by most colleges and universities. The University of Utah is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU.) Our courses and instructors are approved by the appropriate academic department and our instructors currently teach on campus or have taught there in the past. Thirty-eight percent of our instructors have Doctoral degrees and 49% have Masters degrees.

The Distance Education faculty and staff are committed to helping you reach your educational goals. Please let us know what we can do to help you in this pursuit. Our team is here to help you - at 801-581-8801, 800-467-8839, or you may use our online contact form.
