English Language Institute Facilities
The English Language Institute is housed in the Annex building at the University of Utah. We have a state-of-the-art multimedia computer lab designed specifically for language learning. Registered students can listen to their class textbook audio files on the computers, record their speech to improve their communication and pronunciation skills, and complete other classroom assignments. ELI also offers specialized workshops in the lab, including an accent reduction course and a webpage authoring course.
Students at the English Language Institute have access to the same facilities and opportunities as all University of Utah students. This access allows students to interact socially with American students and other international students on campus as well as experience American culture as Americans do. Some of the facilities and opportunities available to students include:
- Library privileges at the Marriott Library, Eccles Medical Library, and the Quinney Law Library
- Computer privileges at all open-access computer centers (view the list of all computer labs)
- Inexpensive student pass for city bus and light rail transportation
- Five performing arts theaters
- University athletic competitions on campus
- Free or discounted movie performances at the movie theater on campus
- Discounted movie tickets to movie theaters throughout the city
- Athletic facilities, including swimming pool, gymnasium, outdoor recreation, campus recreation, nine-hole golf course, volleyball, squash courts, tennis courts and racquetball courts (a small additional membership fee is required by the University)
