English Language Institute Short Term Programs

Winter 2009 — February

ELI students in the snowExplore Utah Winter students improve their English skills and learn to ski or snowboard on the greatest snow on earth. Utah was home to the 2002 Winter Olympics because of its outstanding powder snow and easy access to ski resorts which are only 40 minutes from the university.

Students spend three hours per day in a classroom building vocabulary and developing English skills. In addition, students receive two ski lessons, two full days of skiing and participate in other winter sports activities such as snowshoeing, ice skating and cross country skiing. They can also participate in activities within the local community with many opportunities to practice speaking English.

Students may attend a 2-week session or a 4-week session.

4 weeks: February 2 through 27
2 weeks: February 2 through 13
2 weeks: February 16 through 27

Who is eligible?

  • Visitors to the U.S. on tourist visas or visa waivers.
  • F-1 visa students transferring from other schools.
  • New F-1 students (apply on our website) - must take the February program and continue for one more session.

more snow funTHERE IS A MINIMUM OF 10 STUDENTS PER SESSION. If fewer than ten students enroll, students will be placed in ELI's regular spring academic program.

Tuition is $1,250 for four weeks and $800 for two weeks.  This includes ski equipment for two ski lessons with two full-days of skiing and two additional activities per week during February with opportunities to practice speaking English.

Homestays are available for housing.
