Su Banco: Advanced English Language Training for Local Spanish Speakers

Since January 2005, we have offered an English as a Second Language (ESL) scholarship program through the English Language Institute. The Zions Bank-ELI Scholarship Program provides professional level English language training for Spanish-speaking Latinos/as as well as speakers of other languages who are graduates of Salt Lake valley ESL programs and who are interested in enhancing their English language skills and employment opportunities. The scholarship was established to minimize costs for training in advanced levels of English with an emphasis on language skills required for the workplace, professional occupations, and financial literacy.

Students receive a substantial scholarship, free textbook, 16 weeks of instruction, and the opportunity to take the TOEFL exam for free. Prospective students must take and pass a placement exam before being accepted. The focus of the class is on college preparation, with an emphasis on writing, reading, vocabulary, grammar, discussions, and pronunciation practice. This is not a "survival" English program.

How to qualify:
Interested individuals should contact the ELI staff at (801) 581-4600 to receive a placement test application to qualify for ELI non-credit classes, and for course dates and additional information.
