New Advance Health Care Directives Academy

October 25 - New for Spring 2008! University of Utah students can now get certified and receive university credit at the same time!
Starting in January, registered U of U students can obtain Apple Certification (CS 2960), CCNA (CS 2961), and Linux (CS 2963) certifications while receiving their degrees. Technology Education and School of Computing have partnered to provide this exciting combination of certification and credit. Registration begins November 1. Dixie PMBA and Nursing Info Sessions Announced
October 19 - Professional MBA (PMBA) program at Dixie State College. Applications for spring admission are due November 16.

Information sessions for U of U graduate nursing programs at Dixie are being held November 2 and December 3. November 2 will be held in the Udvar-Hazy Classroom, 105 at 3:00 PM. Two sessions will be held on December 3 at 3:00 and 6:00 PM in the Jennings building (110) at Dixie State. For more information, contact the graduate nursing program at 801-581-8798. Nursing applications for fall 2008 are being accepted until January 15.

2007 Reynolds Lecturer Announced
October 12 - Continuing Education at the U is proud to present the 2007 Frederick W. Reynolds Lecture on Thursday, November 15, 2007. Dr. Octavio Villalpando, Associate Vice President for Diversity at the U, will present "Racial Equality as Educational Excellence in Higher Education". This year's lecture is being held in honor of Professor J.D. Williams. The event, which is open to the public (RSVP not required), will begin at 7:00 PM with a dessert reception, followed by the lecture at 8:00 in the Dumke Auditorium at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. Distance Education Unveils New Finance 1200 Course
October 2 - Management of Personal Finance, written by Dr. Jerry Basford, has been recently re-released to teach students how to manage personal and family finances. The new print-based independent study class focuses on budgeting, financial documents, investing, home ownership, and other topics related to personal finance. RUReady Program Selected
September 27 - Of 52 programs in competition, RUReady's parsing technology was among 8 programs selected by the Lassonde Center at the University of Utah, which will help develop a business plan for RUReady technology. The Lassonde Center's mission is to assist researchers with breakthrough technologies and determine the commercialization potential of those ideas while providing students a unique educational experience in new business development. September 18 - Continuing Education at the U launched a new RSS news feed from its website today. Students, instructors, and other interested website visitors can sign up for the RSS feed from our homepage (www.continue.utah.edu) for up-to-the-minute news and event announcements from any of our nine programs.

Technology Education Will Attend Bookstore's MACTECH Fair Oct. 2
September 20 - Staff and instructors from Continuing Education's Technology division will be on hand at the University of Utah Bookstore's Mactech Expo on October 2 in the University Union building. Stop by to learn about upcoming classes, including Apple Authorized Training, Cisco Certified Training, and new Linux offerings. September 13 - Microsoft Vista has a completely different look and feel from the last version. Just in time for individuals with new computers or businesses struggling to switch to Microsoft Vista, Technology Education at the U is offering "new features" classes for Microsoft Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Polish Professional Skills with New Lifelong Learning Classes

September 11 - In business lunches, interviews, and client meetings, what you wear, say, and even what utensil you use can make the difference between a signed contract or a lost client. Lifelong Learning at the U offers two new classes at the Murray Campus, designed to help professionals become even more successful in their presentation and impact. POWER, PRESENCE, AND STYLE is offered Thursdays from September 20 to October 4, and THE BUSINESS OF LUNCH is offered Thursday, October 18. Professional Education Now Offering Fire Service Leadership Academy Level II
September 6 - After several successful years of offering Level I of the Fire Service Leadership Academy, Level II will kick off with Phase I in December 2007. This certificate program builds on the skills learned in Level I and addresses the unique educational development needs of fire service professionals who seek to take the next step in expanding their leadership skills and knowledge of global issues that may impact the fire service locally. Youth Education Exceeds Enrollment Goal for Summer 2007
August 24 - Youth Education at the U exceeded its summer enrollment goal by over 1,000 students! The program aimed to register 3500 participants in various summer day camps and classes, and finished the season with 3,607 registrations. U of U Expands to Dixie in Fall 2007
August 20 - The University of Utah is pleased to announce a new educational partnership with Dixie State College. The U will offer graduate and professional degree programs on the Dixie campus starting in fall 2007 and spring 2008. Select degrees will be available in nursing, education, and business. These programs are being offered to meet the higher education needs of business, education, and health care professionals in St. George, Utah and the surrounding communities. Osher Institute Unveils New Membership Options, Scholarships
August 3 - Membership in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is now available for as little as $30 per year. This new pricing system allows Utahns to become members without taking classes, to add classes in an a la carte fashion, or to take an unlimited number of courses during the year. These membership options and new pricing are designed to move the Institute closer to self-sustainability and to provide the high quality learning experience members have come to know and love. The new Osher Scholarship Program will provide opportunities for members of the community to take Osher courses without financial barriers. Professional Education Partners with Weber, Western Wyoming
August 1 - Professional Education at the U, in cooperation with Weber State University, will hold a Certificated Supply Chain Professional Class at its Murray site this fall. The class will be developed and taught by Weber State instructors at the U. location, and will be co-marked by both institutions. Also this fall, Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) and the University of Utah are pleased to offer a select group of Human Resource Management courses via video at WWCC and a certificate program via a hybrid model (video and on-site classes). Participants may elect to enroll in one or all of the individual courses or may enroll in the complete certificate program. Nonprofit Academy for Excellence Applications Due in One Month
July 24 - Applications are still being accepted for the Nonprofit Academy for Excellence at the U. Submit your application online, along with two letters of reference, by August 24, to be considered for the fall class. July 20 - Fall registrations are being accepted online or by phone for all Continuing Education programs except the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. New Intellectual Property Class Offered Non-Credit
July 16 - This new course offered through the Computer Science department and Academic Noncredit at the U examines ways of protecting digital information - computer software, music, databases - using intellectual property law. This class may be eligible for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit; students must submit a request to the Utah State Bar upon completion of the class. Youth Education Programs to Start June 4

May 29 — Youth Education at the U of U will kick off its summer term next week with SummersCOOL classes and Club U day camps for kids from preschool to high school. Offering everything from ACT and SAT preparation classes to Small Fries: Cookin' in the Kitchen to the U Golf Academy. Registration for all classes is open now, online. Distance Education Rolls Out More New Online Classes

May 21 — Students may now enroll for two new online independent study classes: Anthropology 1020 and Teaching and Learning 5380. Online classes are an excellent avenue for students seeking flexible ways to finish their degrees. Students can enroll for online classes anytime, not just during official semester registration, and may take up to nine months to complete each class. Credit is earned at the end of the semester in which the class is completed. For more information, read more about Independent Study.

Nonprofit Academy for Excellence Now Accepting Applications

May 7 — Applications are now being accepted online for the fall class of the new Nonprofit Academy for Excellence. Applications must include a personal statement, resume or bio, and two letters of reference. Thirteen matching scholarships are being provided to eligible applicants. Applicants are encouraged to indicate their interest in being considered for matching scholarship funds as part of the application. New Online Biology Class Offered

March 3 — New Online Biology Class Offered (BIOL 1210). Now online at the U for the first time, Principles of Biology provides four credit hours and an introduction to the unifying concepts in biology. Study includes how structure defines function, how energy and matter are used, how growth and reproduction take place, and how all of this is related. To register, visit the class page.

New Outreach Program: Utah College Advising Corps

Academic Outreach worked in collaboration with Continuing Education on a $1,000,000 grant which was recently awarded by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation to establish the Utah College Advising Corps. The Utah College Advising Corps is a university-based, state-wide college access program which will focus on reaching out to first generation students, students of color, and other students facing substantial barriers with regard to the necessary steps to enter an institution of higher education. The goal of this program is to encourage all Utah high school students to participate in the various higher education opportunities available to them through the state's nine colleges and universities. Founded on the idea that all of Utah's students should have an equitable opportunity to be prepared for and succeed in a college or university, mentors will guide high school students through the test preparation, application, and financial aid process to ensure that Utah's high school students understand that higher education is accessible and is an attainable goal. Lifelong Learning Offers Daytime, Weekday Classes in Park City

New for summer 2007, Summit County residents and visitors can take Lifelong Learning classes during daytime hours, Monday through Friday. New offerings include Meditation Sampler, Uinta Mountain Wildflower Walk, Breath Life into Your Life Story, Travel Writing, Ceramic Tile Painting, Nature Photography, Window on Park City, T'ai Chi, Wine & Cheese Pairings, Food & Wine Pairing, and Mastering Martinis. Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Expands to Bountiful

For the first time ever, the Osher Institute is holding seven classes in the U of U Bountiful Campus location at 75 East 200 South for its spring term, which began April 2. University classes have been held at the historic Stoker School since 1981. The Bountiful campus offers free parking and a central downtown location for Osher members, and is easy to find from I-15. The spacious facility includes 17 classrooms, two study rooms, a gymnasium, two ceramics studios, and a computer lab with 22 computers. Professional Education to Launch New Nonprofit Academy for Excellence

Nonprofit organizations are unique and require specialized training. Our new interactive, solutions-based certificate programs will inspire excellence in nonprofit professionals and volunteers as they learn from seasoned instructors and other course participants. The Academy was developed by an Advisory Committee of distinguished representatives ranging from corporate giving to board members to nonprofit management, in conjunction with the Utah Nonprofits Association and the Utah Society of Fundraisers. Classes will be taught by practitioners, academicians, and subject matter experts.

Who should attend? Dedicated professionals and volunteers in the area of nonprofit management, including staff, new and experienced non-profit leaders, board members, professional association employees, and private-sector employees considering a job change. Technology Education Offers CCNA Training for Spring 2007

CCNA stands for Cisco Certified Networking Administrator, a highly sought-after certification for computer network professionals. CCNA Boot Camp is an intense learning experience spread over 40 hours of training that combines instructor-led education with hands-on laboratory exercises. Students leave Boot Camp fully prepared for the CCNA certification exams. Passing the CCNA certification exam proves the student has a firm foundation in the most important components of the Cisco product line—routers and switches. It also proves that they have broad knowledge of protocols and networking technologies. For more information on this new program, please visit this page. Technology Education Offers Apple Certified Training

Continuing Education at the University of Utah announces the grand opening of the first official commercial Apple Authorized Training Center (AATC) in Utah. The University of Utah's Apple Authorized Training Center delivers Apple's proprietary developed courses utilizing state-of-the-art equipment including Wireless Mobile Labs and up-to-date hardware. The Center is also staffed with Apple Certified Trainers who meet the highest quality standards. Continuing Education's technology students enjoy a top-notch training experience in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the inventors of the iPod, the new MacBook, the iMac, and Final Cut Pro. The official authorized training classes are Mac Support Essentials, Mac Server Essentials, and Final Cut Pro.
