![]() Professional Education Classes: Continuing Education Units and Professional Development UnitsProfessional Education at the University of Utah provides high levels of learning for all students who desire to improve their professional skills and desire to advance their careers. As such, all courses offered through Professional Education provide Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Professional Development Units (PDUs). The purpose of these units is to provide a record of noncredit professional education accomplished by an individual. All noncredit open enrollment courses offered through Professional Education at the University of Utah will show on your permanent University of Utah transcript. Please note, that although many national, state, and local licensing boards and professional organizations will grant continuing education and professional development credit for attendance at our seminars, classes, and workshops upon receipt of the course outline along with your Certificate of Attendance, each organization lists different requirements. Continuing Education Units (CEUs)Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are a nationally recognized and respected method of granting non-degree credit and offering professional development opportunities. One instructional contact hour is typically equal to 0.1 CEU. Please contact your professional organization to find out its CEU requirements. Professional Education Units (PDUs)The term Professional Education Units (PDUs) is very often used interchangeably with CEUs; however, the exchange rate of instructional contact hours to PDU varies by organization. PHR/SPHR RecertificationThe University of Utah Human Resource Management program has been approved for 58 recertification credit hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). Project Management Institute (PMI) PMP Exam Prerequisite HoursPMP Exam Prep - The University of Utah's PMP Exam Preparation course provides 36 hours of project management training and fulfills the PMI training prerequisite outlined in the PMP exam application. The Project Management Basics course provides 7 hours of project management training and fulfills hours toward the PMI training prerequisite outlined in the PMP exam application. Other courses offered by Professional Education may apply for Professional Engineer license renewal. Please check with the licensing office. Continuing Professional Education (CPE) for CPAsThe Financial Management for Nonprofits Certificate, part of the Nonprofit Academy for Excellence, provides 49 CPEs. According to the UACPA, CPE course approval is not mandatory, but "courses with approval numbers are recognized as complying with the CPE rules." This program's approval number is 081208-09. Other Professional Education classes may provide CPE, please check with UACPA for approval. |
