Professional Education Fire Service Leadership Academy: Foundations for Leadership

The Foundations for Leadership Certificate is made up of two phases of instruction. To obtain this certificate, participants must complete both Phase One and Phase Two curricula as outlined below:

Leadership Principles

Day 3:
Employment Law

PHASE TWO CURRICULUM - REGISTER (PROED 802)
Day 1:
Strategic Planning
Diversity & Communication

Day 2:
Writing for the Workplace
Organizational Ethics

Day 3:
ICS Review
Academy Wrap-up, Networking Lunch, and Certificate awards

Upon completion of the Fire Leadership Academy Foundations for Leadership Certificate, you'll gain effective leadership skills, including:

  • Enhanced leadership skills that provide the foundation for great leadership
  • Enhanced strategic thinking and planning ability
  • An understanding of effective business writing and presentations that impact every facet of your job
  • What rights employees have in the workplace, and how to guard against lawsuits and complaints
  • An understanding of the political role of a fire chief
  • An analysis of government practices to further your policy and budgeting objectives
  • An opportunity to network with other fire professionals from across Utah

Upon completion of both Phase One and Phase Two of the Academy, fire professionals will earn the Fire Leadership Academy Foundations for Leadership Certification.
