How does pick-up and drop-off work? Where do I pick my child up if it is raining? What should I bring to Club U? What if my child forgets lunch? What are electives? How do electives work? Can we sign up for electives early? How do student groupings work? Will the younger kids be in groups with older kids? What experience and qualifications do counselors and staff members have? What if my child has a disability? Club U runs for a total of 11 weeks, and parents can register
students for a week at a time (or for all 11!). Registrations will
be taken up until the Friday before the new week starts (depending upon
availability). Many weeks will fill, so register early to guarantee a spot.
Registering early also makes check-in and paperwork go more smoothly on
Monday.
University staff eligible for the 15% tuition discount will need to register over the phone. Please mention the discount when calling. How does pick-up and drop-off work? Parents should bring children to President's Circle between
8:00-8:15 a.m. on Mondays. Check-in lines are broken up according to last
name. Getting your paperwork in early makes check-in faster and more efficient.
On Tuesdays (and the rest of the week) parents drop off students directly
with counselors. Please check-out your child with their counselor between
3:00 and 3:15.
Where do I pick my child up if it is raining? If it is raining and your child IS NOT registered for the Club U Lounge then
you will pick them at at the Naval Science Gym (110 South 1452 East). Club
U Staff will be standing outside the gym to run inside and retrieve your child
or you may park at the guest parking conveniently located a few hundred feet
away. Please do not park and leave your car in front of the gym. There are
a lot of children and limited space.
What should I bring to Club U? Please make sure to wear closed-toes shoes because we
are always walking, playing sports, and doing activities that require functional
shoes. Flip-flops are allowed in the pool, but students still need to bring
closed-toed shoes in with them to camp. Please also bring lots of water
(one or two large bottles), a healthy lunch, and snacks. We are often out
in the sun and very active throughout the day so it is very important to
supply a nutritious lunch and lots of water. Students also need to bring
a backpack to put all their belongings in. Please label belongings.
What if my child forgets lunch? Please talk to the child's counselor and we will make
arrangements. Make sure to tell counselors about any food allergies.
Electives are short, content specific classes that students
get choose depending on their interest and age. Electives will be posted
on the web and available in our office approximately two to six days prior
to the start of the each new week.
Most electives run Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Some elective times vary depending on the week.
These are listed in the course descriptions for the appropriate weeks.
Can we sign up for electives early? Yes! As long as the student's paperwork is in, you can
sign up on the Thursday or Friday before the next camp starts on Monday.
Please come to the office (Annex #1169) or call us at 801-581-6984. Student
forms are available on our web site.
How do student groupings work? Will the younger kids be in groups with older kids? Students are grouped by age range (the 6 year olds with
6 year olds, 8 year olds with 8 year olds etc...). There will be some overlap
with ages depending on enrollment. Many activities are split between the
6-9 year olds and the 10-12 year olds. Often on Mondays or Fridays we will
have large group activities where the various counselor groups interact.
What experience and qualifications do counselors and staff members have? You can see staff biographies and qualifications on the
web. These bios are linked to each Club U course. Please note that different
counselors are listed for each section. Usually, counselors will work with
approximately the same age range throughout the summer.
What if my child has a disability? We strive to incorporate students of all ability levels
in camp. Students will need to be able to get along in a group setting
with ratios of approximately 10-1. Often, we can supply a counselor's assistant
to help your child individually. Please talk to the camp director in advance
to make special arrangements for your child. Giving us advance notice helps
to make sure we can accommodate the student in addition to helping them
have a successful time in camp.
