Youth Education Program Policies

In order to ensure the best possible experience for your child, we ask that you read carefully and adhere to the following policies. Please be aware that your child is officially registered for the course once the registration form is submitted. You will be sent a confirmation letter with additional information for you to review and return.

For policies regarding student data security and privacy, please see our Continuing Education Privacy and Security Policy page.

Early Arrivals and Latecomers

You will need to be prompt in dropping off and picking up your child. The University of Utah does not assume responsibility for any child dropped off unattended. Please do not drop off your child more than ten minutes before the class begins. If a child is not picked up promptly after class, you will be charged a late fee of $5.00 for each 10 minutes the child is left unattended at the classroom. This does not apply if you are delayed due to an emergency. Please contact the Youth Education staff at 801-581-6984 to alert us to any emergency situation, e.g. car trouble, etc.

Rain Policy for Outdoor Classes

If you are not contacted by phone, please call 801-581-6984 for a class update. Do not assume the class is canceled due to weather. If you have not received any prior notice, please bring your child to the scheduled location where you will be met by an instructor or staff member and advised of the backup location or rescheduled date. You will be asked to transport your child to and from the backup location.

Discipline Policy

The purpose of good classroom management is to provide an environment conducive to learning. Teachers have the right to teach and students have the right to learn. An extremely disruptive student interrupts the learning experience and upsets the other children.

Students are expected to abide by these rules:

1. Follow directions
2. Show respect with your words and body
3. Think "Safety First!"

Our policy in handling disruptive children is as follows: First, the instructor will discuss the situation with the student; on the second occurrence, the instructor will notify the parent. If the situation continues uncorrected, the Youth Education staff will contact the parent and the student will be dismissed. No refunds will be authorized in the event of a dismissal.

Refunds

Refund requests and withdrawal from classes must be made through Youth Education, 1169 Annex Building, Wing A or over the phone (801-581-6984). Parents are responsible for dropping all desired courses for their children. A 100% refund will be given for cancellations up to 4 calendar days prior to the first class. No refunds will be authorized after that, including no prorated refunds for partial attendance. No refunds are authorized in the event of a dismissal (see Discipline Policy above). Please contact us at 801-581-6984 if you have extenuating circumstances beyond student or parent control.

Cancellation of Class

If fewer than the minimum number enroll, the class will be cancelled. Parents will be notified in advance and will receive a full refund. Classes require a minimum enrollment before they can be held.

Parking

Parents and students are expected to abide by parking restrictions at all course locations. For courses at the U of U campus, parents with student under driving age may take a copy of their registration to Parking Services, Bldg 436, for a discounted AOCE Youth parking pass. Vehicles may be ticketed if parked in a restricted area or without a parking permit. for questions concerning parking restrictions, please phone 801-581-6415.

Tuition Assistance

Because our classes are self-supporting, they cannot be prorated, and half-tuition is not available for benefits-eligible University employees. However, we do offer a 15% discount on tuition for all U employees. Some tuition assistance is available for those who qualify for the federal free and reduced school lunch program.
