![]() Frequently Asked Questions About the Youth Academy of Excellence CampsWho can enroll?Students who demonstrate above average interest and ability and who excel in one or more academic areas will find YAE exciting and enjoyable. This summer educational opportunity is intended for students who like to think deeply, question significant issues, and formulate their own ideas and opinions. Students in identified gifted programs and/or successful participants of talent search programs are encouraged to register. Although YAE does not have a formal application, a teacher recommendation or evidence of enrollment in an advanced learner, honors, or gifted program is required for math and writing courses. What is included in the course cost?Students will receive all instructional materials, entrance to museums and research facilities, field trip transportation, t-shirt, and a certificate of completion. A daily lunch is included. Are scholarships available?A limited amount of financial assistance is available for economically disadvantaged students who apply for the program on a first-come, first-served basis. The federal free or reduced school lunch program income guidelines are used as criteria. Students who are interested and qualified should fill out the tuition assistance form or contact the Youth Education office at (801) 581-6984. How do I register? Please go to www.youth.utah.edu to select courses or phone (801) 581-6984. Students can select one course per week. Course titles and descriptions are listed online at our website. A program brochure with the same information will be available after the first week in April. What if my child is home-schooled and not enrolled in a gifted and talented program?Since we do not require standardized test scores, students are welcome to register based on their parent's or guardian's assessment that YAE would be a good fit. Parents who wish to get a standardized test score may contact your neighborhood school or your local school district's gifted and talented specialist to request testing. |
