I have a Question
The Historic Borderlands tour offers an opportunity to explore three of Central Europe’s most fascinating cities and the fates of the empires they have represented. Join Christoph Dressler, Go Learn’s director who was born and raised behind the Iron Curtain in the German Democratic Republic, and travel through space and history. We’ll see how the different states that have ruled this region have ebbed and flowed with time. We’ve got a lot to learn, from grand empires to divided cities!
The journey first takes you to one of Europe’s hippest capitals, Berlin. Known for its crucial role in modern German history, Berlin never disappoints! From the rise of the German Empire to the world wars to its symbolism during the Cold War, and finally, its magnificent transformation after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the city reflects the twists and turns of Germany’s complicated past. We will discover Dresden, Germany’s Florence on the Elbe River as we cross states and ancient Germanic lands. Learn how not even the fire-bombing of WWII could erase its elegance and beauty. From there, we venture on to Sudetenland, Bohemia, or what is today the Czech Republic, by discovering Prague, a medieval treasure with as much charm as Paris. After staying at enchanted Cesky Krumlov, we once again cross ancient borders to travel through Austria, along the Danube River, discovering Austrian wine and once more slipping into the past, learning from local guides, eating Sacher Torte, and waltzing through Vienna for three days straight.
