Outdoor Cooking and Camping

Learn the basics of food preparation in the outdoors. The primary emphasis is exploring the methods appropriate for a camp setting. Included are discussions and practice of such topics as camping skills, Dutch ovens, grills, and other commonly available equipment. Camping skills, menus, safety, and environmental care are also covered. Course includes two classroom sessions and an overnight weekend field trip. Special fee includes group equipment and camp permit but not food or transportation.

This noncredit class meets with a regular University of Utah credit course.

Spring 2022 Section 1, Starting on: 03/22/2022

This course focuses on outdoor cooking and camping at a front-range campground. Students will learn about different cooking techniques and tools, such as a two-burner stove, whisperlight backpacking stoves, canister stoves, and/or dutch ovens. Students will learn about campsite selection, camping equipment, and how to prepare for their own camping adventures. Class meets on-campus on Mar. 23 only. Attendance at first class meeting is mandatory. Field experience will be Apr. 1st to Apr. 3rd.
