Basics of winter backpacking and camping, Leave No Trace, cooking, and consumerism, along with recreation-management challenges associated with that activity. Designed for both the novice and experienced winter backpacker. Overnight camping.
This noncredit class meets with a regular University of Utah credit course.
Online book and material fees may be added up until the first week of class. Students may opt out during the first two weeks of class. Learn basic snow shelter construction, leave no trace, land management issues, and equipment/food systems appropriate for a comfortable winter backpacking experience. We will spend two nights winter camping in the Uinta Mountains engaging in beginner level snowshoeing and skiing. Class meets on-campus on January 30 only. Attendance at first class is mandatory.
