Basics of winter backpacking and camping, Leave No Trace, cooking, and consumerism, along with recreation-management challenges associated with that activity. Designed for both the novice and experienced winter backpacker. Overnight camping.
This noncredit class meets with a regular University of Utah credit course.
Online book and material fees may be added up until the first week of class. Students may opt out during the first two weeks of class. For more information, visit the Campus Store Inclusive Access Program's webpage. If you opt out, you will be responsible for obtaining the course materials yourself for the course.

Class Sections For Backpacking: Winter (PRTS 413)
Spring 2023 Section 1, Starting on: 01/30/2023
Learn basic snow shelter construction, leave no trace, land management issues, and equipment/food systems appropriate for a comfortable winter backpacking experience. We will spend two nights winter camping in the Uinta Mountains engaging in beginner level snowshoeing and skiing. Class meets on-campus on January 30 only. Attendance at first class is mandatory.
