Kayaking, water safety, and camping in the context of recreation management issues associated with those activities. Includes wilderness ethics, geology, ecology, navigation, history, and wildlife. Overnight camping.

Class Sections For Sea Kayaking (PRTW 323)

Spring 2018 Section 1, Starting on: 03/26/2018

This is an intro to sea kayaking course which will include boat packing, basic paddle strokes, rescue techniques, overnight camping, local geological and historical education and Leave No Trace practice. This four-day adventure will take place on Lake Powell and the student will be responsible for their own kayak rental. Attendance at the first class meeting is mandatory. Drops not possible after the 2nd day following this meeting. Class meets Mar 26 (Mon) only. Field trip to Lake Powell April 5th - April 8th (Thu – Sun). Overnight camping. INSTRUCTOR CONSENT is required to register for this class. This class is being offered to students enrolled in (Work, Wellness and the Great Outdoors Learning Community - UGS 2300) This outdoor lab/class is scheduled for students taking (Work, Wellness and the Great Outdoors Learning Community - UGS 2300). This is an intro to sea kayaking course which will include boat packing, basic paddle strokes, rescue techniques, overnight camping, local geological and historical education and Leave No Trace practice. This four-day adventure will take place on Lake Powell and the student will be responsible for their own kayak rental food, camping fees, and any additional gear you might need.. Attendance at the first class meeting is mandatory. Drops not possible after the 2nd day following this meeting. Class meets April 12 (Thursday) only.
