Historical novels tell interesting stories about a time and place and the people living there. Using "The Underground Railroad," by Colson Whitehead, as the launching point, this course will look at the history of the Underground Railroad for one hour to provide the context for the novel, and then we will spend another hour discussing the novel as literature. Readers and history buffs welcome! Please read "The Underground Railroad" before class.
