Abraham Lincoln was many things--attorney, politician, Commander-in-Chief, and President. Yet, as importantly, his struggles with the great issues of his day led him to develop a uniquely American political philosophy, a philosophy that was grounded in both realism and morality. From the House Divided Speech to the Cooper Union Address, and then through the profound writings and addresses as President, Lincoln defined the American political philosophy.
