Foraging Wild Foods for a Better Lifestyle
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

Membership in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is required to register for Osher classes. If you are unsure about your membership status, call us at 801-581-6461. If you are new to Osher, follow the Membership link at the right to learn more about membership.

These five, two-hour classes will cover the basics of how, when, and why to forage for foods in nature, as well as in your own backyard. We will discuss native and introduced mushrooms, berries, greens, shoots, and roots, as well as a variety of animals. Class members will be surprised at the many opportunities to find healthier food while enjoying Utah's great outdoors. Learn the basic equipment, time of year, and likely locations to harvest, prepare, and store these wild foods. The instructor will provide valuable handouts and resources, and schedule a fun, local, informal outdoor field trip. Current University of Utah policy requiring mask wearing and social distancing will be followed.
