"Utah was once at the heart of the American fur trade. Some of the most famous mountain men ever to go west spent time exploring, trapping, and trading in Utah. Their legacy is still present in the names and places that any resident of Utah would recognize, places like Ogden, Provo, and Cache Valley. This course explores both the life and times of the people who history remembers as the mountain men. You will learn about their experiences here in Utah, have the opportunity to try your hand at learning traditional skills, and gain firsthand understanding of some of the tools that were essential to the profession. By gaining a greater appreciation of the lives and times of the people who lived here before us, our own experiences in these same places will be made that much richer."
