Nature Journaling with Watercolors

Membership in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is required to register for Osher classes. If you are unsure about your membership status, call us at 801-581-6461. If you are new to Osher, follow the Membership link at the right to learn more about membership.

This course combines two skills, nature journaling and watercolor painting, with the purpose of quickly and effectively capturing how you see the natural world around you. The wonderful thing about combining nature journaling with painting is the experience and results will be entirely unique to you. Class members will develop watercolor painting techniques to help them record the colors, movement, and textures they observe. Try not to compare your work to others and remember why you are doing it: to have fun and expand your observation and understanding of your local environment. Painting and journaling are both relaxing, interesting, and enlightening. You will have the opportunity to learn something new every time you go out. The first four classes will be held via Zoom, and the final two classes will meet outside to practice nature journaling in the field. Location of those final classes will be announced to the class members. Current University of Utah policy requiring mask wearing and social distancing will be followed.
