Project Management Fundamentals Program

Geared towards professionals who do not have formal project management training, this noncredit program provides essential fundamental training in common methodologies used by project managers today. You will complete the program with a well-rounded set of both hard and soft skills needed to understand and implement project management best practice, including the principles of project management, project team management, and project assessment.

After completion of this program, depending on individual circumstances, you may consider preparing for the Project Management Institute (PMI) Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) exam.

You may also register for classes individually rather than the full program.

Project Management Class Details
Our Project Management Fundamentals program offers two enrollment options: individual classes for PDU's or a comprehensive six-class program. The program is completed over six weeks, with each class building upon the previous one.
For beginners, we recommend starting with Fundamentals of Project Management I and II to establish a solid foundation in project management principles.
Experienced professionals can choose classes independently to focus on specific topics or fill knowledge gaps.
Join our program to enhance your skills, earn PDU credits, and advance your project management career.

Schedule
Classes are offered each semester (spring, summer, fall) in the following formats:

  • Daytime (one day – 6 hours) from 9 am - 4 pm (with a lunch break)
or
  • Evening (two evenings – 3 hours each) from 6 - 9 pm

Classes are offered online or in person. Attendance and participation are required for the full duration of the class. Our classes are not recorded.

Required Courses for Fundamentals of Project Management Program

This program is entry-level, with no prerequisites. It is valuable for new and experienced Project Managers. Complete one section each of the 6 required classes within 1 year. Each class features 6 hours of curriculum.

Tuition is due upon registration.

Classes are currently priced at $307* each.

  • University of Utah Employee Discount Eligible.
  • Financial aid is not available for this noncredit program. Students are encouraged to inquire with their employers to determine if tuition assistance is available.

Completion

Coursework:

  • All class materials are held in Canvas. When you register you will receive a uID in an email with instructions to set up your CIS (Campus Information System) account and access Canvas.
  • Attendance and participation are mandatory.
  • Classes may include pre-work found in Canvas page one week before class begins.

Grading

  • Classes are graded on attendance and participation.
  • Students must attend full class (6 hours) to receive an S (passing grade).
  • Grades will be available in your student CIS account at the end of the semester.
  • Our class offerings are not for university credit.

Next Steps

After completion of the Project Management Fundamentals Program, students may consider further certification with PMI (CAPM, PMP) and by taking our Project Management Professional Exam Preparation (PREP 450) course.
