Designing Exercise Prescriptions for Normal/Special Populations - Online
Professional Education

This online, self-paced course teaches how to develop an exercise prescription in relation to health implications for normal/special populations related to age, medical condition, and fitness level. Topics include cardiac conditions, diabetes, physical disabilities, HIV and AIDS, asthma, sensory impairments, pregnancy, and program design for children to senior populations. This course is designed as a research-based class with emphasis on designing a step-by-step process to creating individualized exercise programs. Six-week Course Outline: I. Introduction to Exercise Prescription and Written Project Details; II. Specific Components for Designing Exercise Prescriptions and Designing Educationally-Based Personal Training Sessions for your Clients and Quiz 1 Due; III. Exercise Prescription for Cardiovascular and Muscular Fitness; IV. Exercise Prescription for Flexibility and Musculoskeletal Disorders: Low Back Pain and Quiz 2 Due; V. Exercise Prescription for the Female Athlete, Children, and Special Populations and Written Project Due; VI. Final Exam Objectives: 1. Students will learn the basic underlying principles of exercise prescription; 2. Students will learn the approach to designing a specific exercise ; 3. Students will learn the specific components of exercise prescription; 4. Students will learn how to apply progressive resistance exercise; 5. Students will gain an understanding of the demographics and pathophysiology of low back pain; 6. Students will gain a general understanding of the demographics and pathophysiology of several physical conditions and how exercise is related and can help.
