Victim Advocacy Certificate - Online
Professional Education

This seven-week, online certificate is course in the rapidly growing field of victim advocacy and assistance. Students will be prepared (or better prepared if already in the field) to work in victim advocacy arenas, such as domestic violence shelters, crisis centers, crisis hotlines, and with state and county governments to assist crime victims in progressing through the criminal justice system and toward successful recovery. Course topics include legal terminology, legal process, legislation regarding victims rights, jurisdiction and venue, ethics, effects of victimization, victim advocate skills, guardianships and crisis intervention. It also covers counseling skills for victims of a wide range of violent crimes. Successful graduates will be awarded a University of Utah certificate of completion. Additionally, The Center for Legal Studies, who the University of Utah partners with to provide this course, is an approved NACP (National Advocate Credentialing Program) national provider. Successful graduates of the Victim Advocacy Certificate will be eligible at minimum for the NACP Provisional Credential and possibly for the Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Credential based upon their experience in the field. Spring 2018 Section 71, Starting on: 03/05/2018

Once a student is logged in, they will have 7 weeks to complete the course. Students should expect to spend at least 45 hours reading and preparing for assignments and tests. Students should also expect to pay approx. $50 additional for books/access to Westlaw Legal Research.
