History Through Gaming: US Victory in the Pacific 1941-1945 (Age 10-14)
Youth Education

This course explores the epic events that took place in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. Of course, we'll do so at a safe distance from the game table to be precise. Students will get the chance to refight some of the famous battles in the Pacific through a board game called Memoir '44, an easy-to-learn tactical-level board game. Historical context for the table top battles students conduct will be provided by in-class discussions and historically-accurate documentaries. Students will learn how to use tanks, infantry, artillery and defensive terrain in this super fun, easy-to-learn board game as they recreate history, or change it. Each day of the course week will spotlight a different battle from the Pacific Theatre from Guadalcanal to Iwo Jima. Co-sponsored with Game Night Games.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Play the Memoir '44 core game system
  • Learn the economic and historical origins of the war in the Pacific in WW2
  • Learn important campaigns, battles, and technological advancements
