The course introduces studio ceramics. It provides the basic technical, historical, theoretical and hands-on experience needed to understand and make high fired, handmade, stoneware ceramics. Through the making of ceramic objects in various techniques, formal discussions, slide presentations and critiques, students are introduced to contemporary artistic and aesthetic issues transcending the clay medium. Students work in stoneware clay and fire work in high fire reduction and Raku.
This noncredit class meets with a regular University of Utah credit course.
