Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again — C.C.Lewis
Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty are tales universally known and beloved. These stories have shaped our imagination, delighted us, and given us hope in dark times. German fairy tales can be traced to the heart of Germany, where Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm - the Brothers - lived and worked. They collected more than 210 unique tales in their Children's and Household Tales, which now belong to the UNESCO’s Register of World Memory. Dive into the magical world of the Brothers Grimm.
Join Go Learn and Professor Karin Baumgartner on an incredibly unique journey to the roots of the Grimm Fairy Tales. Learn how the Brothers Grimm, searching for the roots of a common German language, discovered and collected tales from storytellers and French refugees. Travel with us on the Romantic Road, crossing rivers Neckar, Mosel, Rhein, and Main. Venture into the Spessart Forest, the darkest of all German forests, and discover places of magical repose. Experience a typical German spa and learn about German spa culture. Explore unique German fairy tale towns of half-timbered houses and learn how they survived the calamities of the 20th century, the darkest period of German history. Float on the Rhine River in a nostalgic paddle steamer and watch Romantic fairy tales castles glide by. Taste the famous German Rhine wine and eat traditional German food in a traditional setting. See cobble-stoned university towns that have not changed in 200 years. Experience the world famous Kassel waterworks, a masterpiece of ultimate power that bent water to the will of the ruler. Get to know unknown Grimm fairy tales in a nightly “story time” and learn how the Grimm Brothers reworked their tales over a forty-year period.

Romantic Germany is considered Level Two of Go Learn's three classifications of physical ability levels. For more information regarding physical ability levels click HERE.
Go Learn Activity Levels
Traveling in a group is enriching and fun. It also requires consideration for everyone’s well-being and for reaching our daily goals in activities set by the itinerary. Before we head on our journey we like to ask our participants to consider the activity level each journey has and if it is something they feel able to do. The group’s interest in accomplishing our itinerary is the priority for trip leaders and we understand and respect this promise to all. Due to differences in country-specific laws and regulations, many sites visited are not handicap accessible. Go Learn staff can talk to participants in person for assessment and to answer questions.
At this level of a tour, trip participants will actively participate in up to three hours of activities. We may walk and stand for large portions of the lectures or excursions. Extensive breaks and adequate time to relax makes this our lowest activity level. Like all Go Learn journeys, active listening and participation is fundamental to learning and exploration.
Level 2 requires a good amount of stamina in walking and standing. In the course of a day one can expect to reach and exceed 5 miles of walking, multiple stairs, and prolonged periods of standing. We will take breaks and a certain standard of comfort will be maintained. The journey might have a hotel in one location, avoiding extensive travel, but public transportation and exploring on foot may be the main form of transportation. Happy exhaustion is part of this activity level.
Extensive excursions and challenging terrain will be encountered at this level. A day with a number of hours on foot is the norm. At this activity level, we may embark on hikes, physically strenuous site visits, and distances reaching and exceeding 10 miles per day. Go Learn will always incorporate breaks, sometimes a day off, but this level is as strenuous as it is fun.
