Tour Leader: Dr. Daniel Mendoza
Our trip leader, Dr. Daniel Mendoza (U of U faculty member in Atmospheric Sciences, Internal Medicine, and City & Metropolitan Planning) was born in Lima, Peru (where he took us in the summer of 2022), and grew up in Nairobi, Kenya from ages 9 to 16. He went to school at the International School of Kenya and the highlight of every year were the class trips to various destinations – many of which we will revisit in this trip. He traveled to Malindi and Lamu in 7th grade, stayed a week with the Maasai in the Loita Hills in 8th grade, and explored Mombasa’s beaches and historical sites in 5th grade (as well as having traveled there many times for vacation). He has worked with Go Learn and a former Kenya classmate to develop an itinerary that will cover as much ground as possible in 16 days while allowing plenty of time to reflect and capture the beauty of this truly amazing country.
