A.J. is a western man born in the twentieth century but raised and mentored, on a Four-Corner ranch, by a Sephardic grandfather who refused to leave the nineteenth. A.J. was nurtured by the Colorado Plateau that is a character, setting, or voice in his writing and in his personal life this landscape has became his guide, solace, and goad. His grandfather and the landscape of the Plateau significantly influence A.J.’s twenty-first century perspective as he writes.
He has published non-fiction, poetry, and fiction in several magazines and journals such as the Idaho Review, Wazee Journal, Circa, Rocky Mountain Review, Salt Lake Magazine, Catalyst, and Glimmer Train to name a few. A.J. is the current chair of Writers @ Work and has taught creative writing for Entrada Field Institute, Writers @ Work, Davis County Academy, and the Community Writing Center.
