Chemist by trade. Calligrapher by passion! That is my tag line.
I am a chemist by trade. It is what I earned my degree in. In April of 2008, while performing a routine test, a co-worker took notice of my penmanship in my laboratory notebook. "Did you write that?" he asked astonishedly. "Wow man, that's pretty cool! You should try calligraphy. People do wedding invitations and envelopes using calligraphy." Per his suggestion, I thought I would try it; so I bought a calligraphy pen. I fell immediately in love with it upon crossing that initial threshold. Recognizing the beginnings of an enduring passion for calligraphy, I bought a book for instruction and practiced whenever I could. I contacted professional calligraphers for advice and help. One, Michele Papineau, responded in kind. She has since become my mentor and a friend. That was my humble beginnings in calligraphy.
Since then my passion for calligraphy has literally flourished. I have penned many quotes, place cards, and addressed envelopes in calligraphy for many intimate engagements and events (my all-time favorite was addressing 870 envelopes in two weeks. Quite a monumental feat, I must say.)
I have had the privilege of having my calligraphy featured in local publications such as Salt Lake/Park City Bride and Groom, Utah Bride and Groom, and, Latter Day Bride; as well as several blogs, including Postscript by Crane and Co., Ruffled, and Elizabeth Anne Designs.
I look forward to meeting you in class and passing along this passion, instructing you how to write "beautiful letters".
