Jean Kerr is a retired high school and college English teacher who recently moved to Salt Lake City from Alabama with her three cats. She learned to make Pine Needle Baskets from Judy Mallow, a fifth generation pine needle basket maker, at the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina. Jean has taught Pine Needle Basketry for the Lee County, Alabama Historical Society, OSHER Lifelong Learning for Auburn University at Montgomery, Alabama, and for the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina.
In addition to making baskets from pine needles, she also enjoys knitting, quilting, and playing her dulcimer. She is looking forward to making new friends and to passing on this unique method of crafting baskets.
