Phyllis Barber is the award-winning author of six books, And the Desert Shall Blossom (a novel which won first place in the Utah Arts Council Literary Competition), How I Got Cultured:A Nevada Memoir (winner of the Associated Writing Program Award for Creative Nonfiction); The School of Love and Parting the Veil (short stories),and two juvenile books. Her seventh book, Raw Edges, is forthcoming from The University of Nevada Press. She has taught in the Vermont College MFA Writing Program for sixteen years, was a co-founder of the Writers at Work Conference, and was inducted into the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame in 2005.
