Cole Capener received his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Utah and his juris doctorate from George Washington University. After working for the Wall Street law firm of Shearman & Sterling in New York he joined the international law firm of Baker & McKenzie in its Beijing office. Fluent in Chinese Mandarin, Cole advised Fortune 500 and other multinational companies investing in and doing business with the People's Republic of China for over three decades. More recently he has been an adjunct professor at the University of Utah S. J. Quinney College of Law, the David Eccles School of Business and three Chinese universities--Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and Shanghai Normal University. He has published extensively on Chinese legal and business topics including the seminal treatise on Mergers & Acquisitions in China. Cole served as an independent director on the boards of four Chinese companies and as a member of the board of directors of BMW's Chinese subsidiary, BMW-Brilliance Automotive Co. Ltd, located in Shenyang, China.
