JOHN WECKER

John Wecker served as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State from 1990 until 2021. Overseas assignments included tours in Jamaica, Malaysia, Osaka and Tokyo, Japan, Afghanistan (three tours), and Beirut. His domestic assignments in Washington, DC, included working as the Director of the Economic Section on the China Desk, Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Global Affairs, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs Multilateral Office, Senior Advisor in the Bureau of Energy Affairs, and leader of the USG delegation to the OECD's Working Group on Bribery. Upon retirement, he continued to work for the Department's Coordinator for Afghan Relocation Efforts (CARE), directing operations at Ft. Dix, Ft. Vance, Kosovo and Albania through May, 2024. He grew up in California, Japan, Hawaii and Georgia before graduating from Ogden High School and the University of Utah. He speaks Japanese and Dari.
