40-Hour Basic Mediation Training

Mediation is both a career path and an invaluable personal skill. The knowledge gained and skills honed through this course empower you to improve your life, and the lives of others, as you bring the best practices of professional mediation to bear in your personal and professional worlds. The course is for anyone in the community, and is often pursued by social workers, therapists, educators, members of law enforcement, human resource professionals, managers, government employees, attorneys, and parents, to name just a few. If you want to learn how to find a way to move from conflict to common ground, Basic Mediation Training is the place to begin your journey.

This noncredit class meets with a regular University of Utah credit course. Students can purchase any assigned hardcopy textbooks through our Campus Bookstore.

Class Sections For 40-Hour Basic Mediation Training (LAWC 651)

Summer 2026 Section 1, Starting on: 06/10/2026

THIS COURSE DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR U OF U EMPLOYEE TUITION REDUCTION OR EMERITUS DISCOUNT BENEFITS. THE LAST DATE TO DROP THIS CLASS FOR A FULL REFUND IS FRIDAY, JUNE 5, 2026. This course provides at least 40 hours of basic mediation training in an online format. Class meets live via Zoom each Wednesday evening, and attendance at each class is MANDATORY to receive roster credit. There will also be approximately 2-3 hours of asynchronous material to complete prior to the class sessions each week, and a final capstone project and 30-minute meeting with an instructor to occur after classes end. This course has been qualified by the Utah Court and meets the educational requirement to be listed as a mediator on the Utah Court Roster of Mediators (basic roster). You must attend EVERY class session and complete all online material in order to be awarded credit for the roster.
