What Students are Saying:

"I've taken all of the classes that Kim teaches with LL-- even two classes twice! Why would I do that??? The answer is simple -- Kim provides so much content that once was not enough. Kim is always reviewing, improving, and simplifying her classes, both the syllabi and the presentations.

She takes very complex issues of art, like drawing and perspective, shadow and light, and color theory, to name a few, and simplifies them in a way that preserves the nuances of the subject but makes the content understandable in small bites -- just what I need.

I've also come to appreciate that Kim's classes are a mini-art history course. She has a fluent recall of a broad array of artists, both contemporary and past.

She provides highly constructive feedback and guidance. When I was worried that my paint strokes were too bold, she didn't criticize. Instead, she encouraged me to be true to my developing style and directed me to examine the bold strokes of other painters, in particular John Singer Sargent. That led me to study Sargent and his art.

Kim presents so much supplemental information in the form of short articles and excerpts from books explaining certain styles or concepts that it expands the learning experience far beyond the classroom. I printed these and now have a very full three-ring binder three inches thick. For anyone toying with taking a basic drawing class, be careful! You may get hooked on true Lifelong Learning and become an artist in your own right with Kim as your guide. "
