Mediation is both a career path and an invaluable personal skill. The knowledge gained and skills honed through this course empower you to improve your life, and the lives of others, as you bring the best practices of professional mediation to bear in your personal and professional worlds. The course is for anyone in the community, and is often pursued by social workers, therapists, educators, members of law enforcement, human resource professionals, managers, government employees, attorneys, and parents, to name just a few. This noncredit class meets with a regular University of Utah credit course.

THIS COURSE DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR U OF U EMPLOYEE TUITION REDUCTION OR EMERITUS DISCOUNT BENEFITS. THE LAST DATE TO DROP THIS CLASS FOR A FULL REFUND IS MONDAY, SEPT 11, 2023. STUDENTS DROPPING AFTER THIS DATE WILL NOT BE ENTITLED TO A REFUND. This course provides at least 40 hours of basic mediation training in an online format. We will meet every Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 pm on Zoom for 8 class meetings, starting Sept 13, 2023 and ending on Nov 8, 2023 (this course will observe fall break, no class on Oct 11). There will also be approximately 2-3 hours of asynchronous material to complete prior to the class sessions each week, and a final capstone project and 30-minute meeting with the instructor to occur after Nov 8. This course has been qualified by the Utah Court and meets the educational requirement to be listed as a mediator on the Utah Court Roster of Mediators (basic roster). You must attend EVERY class session and complete all online material in order to be awarded credit for the roster. There are other requirements beyond taking this course that must be completed before being a rostered mediator, including 20 practical hours, and completing an online ethical exam.
