
This class will focus on the natural history of Capitol Reef National Park while day hiking. Attention will be given to contemporary resource management challenges and their relationship to user behaviors. In addition, the course will focus on safety, leave no trace ethics, consumerism, and environmental ethics.
This noncredit class meets with a regular University of Utah credit course. Students can purchase any assigned hardcopy textbooks through our Campus Bookstore.

Wrinkled rock awaits you at Capitol Reef National Park! Waterpocket Fold was formed when tectonic forces caused the Earth’s crust to buckle and over time, erosion has exposed the different layers of rocks. Explore the Fold and other areas of this unusual park. In addition to day hiking, we will focus on contemporary resource management challenges and their relationship to user behaviors. Also discussed is safety, Leave No Trace ethics, consumerism, and environmental ethics. Class meets on-campus on Oct 6 only. Attendance at first class meeting is mandatory. Field experience will be from Oct 23-25.
