Details and What to Expect

St. Petersburg at nightPre-Departure

Like all Go Learn journeys, the adventure begins at home. We will meet weekly, starting two months before we depart for Russia. Tour Leader Gene Fitzgerald will prep us with classes in literature, history, and culture, as well as teach us the basic etiquette and language needed for our adventure.

A tour reunion about a month after returning from Russia will be the perfect conclusion to our journey. We will exchange pictures and stories while remembering the highlights of our adventures. Go Learn expeditions are designed to be small, boutique experiences where one returns with a group of friends. A few meories to sahre and some good food await us at this reunion. We told you – you will travel for about two months with us!

About Russia

This tour will cover the highlights of Russia's two largest cities—Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as a short stay in Suzdal, which will provide a pleasant contrast with its provincial feel. Be ready to immerse yourself in Russia's past—from the Mongol Hordes to the Siege of Leningrad, we'll cover it all. We’ll also enjoy learning about modern Russia and blending in with the locals.

Weather

We picked our tour date carefully. Early September in Russia is pleasant, with highs in the mid-50's. However, this is Russia, so be prepared for cool evenings and a chance of rain. Good footwear, layers of clothing, a rain jacket, and unfailing optimism will make for happy travels.

Transportation

Vladimir Russia churchOur journey is fully assisted by a full-size coach and a flight from Moscow and St. Petersburg. Local guides and local bus drivers will guarantee timely arrivals, flexibility, comfort, and as much history as we want to see.

Activity levels and restrictions

In order to fully explore the sights on our itinerary, we will be walking every day. Most city walking is flat on paved surfaces. When visiting museums and sites, we may be walking long distances or standing on our feet for prolonged times. Be sure to bring comfortable walking shoes! We often will start our days early and continue until sundown. Our exciting itinerary and daily learning adventures will keep you happily exhausted.
