Basic hiking class for beginning or experienced hikers. Core areas include safety, Leave-No-Trace, skills development, and natural resources management.

This noncredit class meets with a regular University of Utah credit course. Students can purchase any assigned hardcopy textbooks through our Campus Bookstore.

Class Sections For Day Hikes Wasatch (PRTL 219)

Fall 2026 Section 1, Starting on: 09/02/2026

Hiking adventures await for beginning and/or experienced hikers. Practice hiking safety, Leave-No-Trace techniques & history, equipment, ecology, route finding, and natural resources management. No Camping. Class meets on-campus on Sep.2 only. Attendance at first class meeting is mandatory. Field experiences will be Fridays, 9/4, 9/11, 9/18 from 1pm - 7pm. Drops are not possible after the second day following the first class meeting. These items may include food, gear rentals, and transportation costs. More details will be made available during the pre-course meeting.
