The basics of snowshoeing, winter safety, environmental ethics, and recreation-management challenges associated with snowshoeing. Overnight Camping.

This noncredit class meets with a regular University of Utah credit course. Students can purchase any assigned hardcopy textbooks through our Campus Bookstore.

Class Sections For Snowshoeing: Beginning (PRTS 411)

Spring 2026 Section 1, Starting on: 01/28/2026

Extend your hiking season by learning the basics of snowshoeing with hikes between 5-7 miles in length. Class will meet on-campus on Jan. 28 only. Attendance at first class meeting is mandatory. Snowshoe tours will occur on Feb 6, 13, and 20 from 8:30am – 5:00pm. No camping. Day trips only. *Drops are not possible after the second day following the first class meeting.* To determine the last day to drop this miscellaneous course, see http://registrar.utah.edu/handbook/miscellaneous.php There may be additional expenses that students will need to cover to participate in this course. These items may include food, gear rentals, and transportation costs. More details will be made available during the pre-course meeting.
