Designed for beginning through intermediate skiers, this course provides practical skills and information on resource and facility management, ski history, and ski techniques.
This noncredit class meets with a regular University of Utah credit course.
Online book and material fees may be added up until the first week of class. Students may opt out during the first two weeks of class. Students will finish this course with the ability to: improve their respective ski abilities (beginner, intermediate, advanced), use current ski techniques, practice current risk management methods, and understand basic standards of ski resort management. These skills will be acquired through multiple days on the ski slopes, demonstrations, and discussion. Additionally, issues related to management of U.S. Forest Service administered lands, such as those used in this ski class, as they relate to recreation and other uses. This course is available for Novice through Advanced skiers, and will be grouped based on each individual's skiing ability.Class meets on-campus on Jan. 16 only. Attendance at first class meeting is mandatory. Brighton field sessions will be on 8 Thursdays (Feb 6, 13, 20, 27, Mar 6, 20, 27, Apr 3). Fee includes 8 seven-hour day passes for each day of the on snow class.
