Skills required for safe and enjoyable camping and cooking experiences within the context of gaining knowledge about environmental care and outdoor resource management of constructed camping areas. Car-based overnight camping.

This noncredit class meets with a regular University of Utah credit course.

Online book and material fees may be added up until the first week of class. Students may opt out during the first two weeks of class. Spring 2024 Section 70, Starting on: 04/09/2024

This course focuses on outdoor cooking and camping at a front-range campground. Students will learn about different cooking techniques and tools, such as a two-burner stove, whisperlight backpacking stoves, canister stoves, and/or dutch ovens. Students will learn about campsite selection, camping equipment, and how to prepare for their own camping adventures. Class meets on-campus on April 9 only. Attendance at first class meeting is mandatory. Field experience will be April 19-21. Stir up some delicious food while learning multiple cooking techniques and tools: two-burner stoves, whisperlight backpacking stoves, canister stoves, and/or dutch ovens. Students will camp at a front range campground and learn about campsite selection, camping equipment, and how to prepare for their own camping adventure. Class meets July 9 only. Field experience July 19-21. Overnight camping at a developed campground. Attendance at the first class meeting is mandatory. Drops not possible after the 2nd day following this meeting.
