
2nd of a 3-course series. Advanced skills: ascending fixed ropes, pothole problem solving, guided rappels, more. Also prepares for American Canyoneering Association (ACA) Recreational Canyon Leader and professional Canyon Guide Certification. Features ACA Advanced Canyoneering (part 1) curriculum.
This noncredit class meets with a regular University of Utah credit course. Students can purchase any assigned hardcopy textbooks through our Campus Bookstore.

This course is the second of a three-part series to teach students more advanced canyoneering skills. Skills that will be covered include ascending rope, passing knots, anchor building and placement, advanced knots, rope retrieval, self-belaying, courtesy rigging, down climbing, companion rescue, introduction to canyon leadership as well as issues concerning our federally managed lands as they relate to this course and much more. Students enrolling in this class need to possess the skills learned in Canyoneering I to take this class. This course has two pre-field trip class meetings. Attendance at both class meetings (prior to field trip) is mandatory. Drops not possible after 2nd day following the first class meeting. Class meets Tuesdays, March 24 and 31. There may be additional expenses that students will need to cover to participate in this course. These items may include food, gear rentals, and transportation costs.
