Canyoneering II: Advanced Ropework

2nd of a 3-course series. Advanced skills: ascending fixed ropes, pothole problem solving, guided rappels, more. Also prepares for American Canyoneering Association (ACA) Recreational Canyon Leader and professional Canyon Guide Certification. Features ACA Advanced Canyoneering (part 1) curriculum.

This noncredit class meets with a regular University of Utah credit course.

Class Sections For Canyoneering II: Advanced Ropework (PRTL 264)

Fall 2024 Section 1, Starting on: 09/11/2024

Students enrolling in this class need to possess the skills learned in Canyoneering 1 to take this class. This course is the second of a three-part series to teach students more advanced canyoneering skills. Skills that will be covered include ascending rope, passing knots, anchor building and placement, advanced knots, rope retrieval, self-belaying, courtesy rigging, down climbing, companion rescue, introduction to canyon leadership as well as issues concerning our federally managed lands as they relate to this course and much more. Class meets September 11 and September 18. Overnight camping field experience all day Fri-Sun September 20-22. Attendance at both class meetings (prior to field program) is mandatory. Drops not possible after the 2nd day following the first class meeting.
