Our Excel courses are designed to help students learn to analyze and organize data on any level. Whether you're just learning how to create spreadsheets or need to perform advanced data analysis with functions, formulas, and charts, these courses will help you unlock the maximum potential of this most widely used and data-analysis program. The 5 courses within the training program are application-oriented and cover all Excel functions and formulas essential to productivity in any professional environment. Upon completion of our Excel Training Program Student’s will become comfortable with Excel’s most advanced features that can help boost productivity, give better insight into data, save time, and provides the tools necessary to create vibrant, persuasive reports.

EDTEC 412 Excel Beginner

This course is designed to familiarize students to the Excel interface, navigation of tools, spreadsheet terminology and fundamental organization concepts that are essential to creating and presenting dynamic worksheets in Excel

Who Should Take This Course?

  • Ideal for the students who are completely new to Excel, or students who have used it before and need a refresher.
  • Students who are looking to get comfortable with the overall layout of Excel and direction in performing basic operations.
  • Professionals who work in Excel every day but want to become more effective and organized in how they use Excel.

Course Prerequisites

No past Excel experience is required. Students will need to be familiar with using personal computers and should be comfortable working in the Windows® environment.

EDTEC 413 Excel Intermediate

This course builds upon the foundational knowledge presented in EDTEC 412 Excel Beginner and takes you further into the process of creating advanced workbooks and worksheets that can help deepen your understating of organizational intelligence. Upon completion of this course, student will be able to leverage the power of data analysis and presentation in order to make informed, organized decisions.

This applied class is designed to aid students in Excel mastery and deepen proficiency by giving students more time to apply the tools gained in our Excel Intermediate class. Students will work through supplied or personal datasets closely with instructors. Individual attention and support will be supplied to students as needed in a lab-like format. Practice makes perfect in our Excel- Applied course.

EDTEC 414 Excel Advanced

This course builds off of the foundational and intermediate knowledge presented in our Excel Beginner and Excel Intermediate courses to help students capitalize on functionality and get the most of out of the Excel experience. Learn how to make excel do that hard work for you from automating complex or repetitive tasks to using conditional logic to construct and apply elaborate formulas.

  • Using lookup functions and formula auditing
  • Sharing and protecting workbook
  • Automating workbook functionality with macros
  • Using Sparklines and 3D map
  • Forecasting Data

Who Should Take This Course?

This applied class is designed to aid students in Excel mastery and deepen proficiency by giving students more time to apply the tools gained in our Excel Advanced class. Work closely with the instructor to use Lookup functions, Pivot Tables, Data Validation, Goal Seek, Macros and Forecasting to solve a real-world case study. It will take a student beyond creating spreadsheets for personal use by developing a solution that can be used by multiple people in an organization. Individual attention and support will be supplied to students as needed in a lab-like format. Practice makes perfect in our Excel- Applied course.

Scott Bishoff
Process engineer for TD Williamson

trigena halleyScott Bishoff is a process engineer for TD Williamson in Salt Lake City, where he uses his data wrangling skills to improve business and engineering processes. He has become the go-to-guy for all things Excel and enjoys taking the tasks that nobody likes to do and automating them with the push of a button. His mission is to help businesses leverage the data they already have, using simple tools that anyone can learn, to make better decisions.

He is a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, with a B.S degree from Southern Utah University in Integrated Engineering. He also has an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, and an M.B.A in Supply Chain and Operations Management - both from the University of Utah.

When not at work or learning about business, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three young kids.

Matt Boerke
Operations Manager OraTech, LLC

Matt BoerkeMatt earned both his bachelor's degree in Marketing and MBA from the University of Utah. He brings business expertise and experience up and down the supply chain from purchasing to operations. He developed the operations processes for the startup EcoScraps. Currently, Matt manages inventory turns and negotiates cost savings as an indirect spend buyer. He has also taught various classroom subjects including biology, environmental education, intro to computers, and Excel). In his spare time Matt loves camping and hiking in the mountains and is a seasoned triathlete.





Ryan Harris
BYU MBA Candidate

Ryan HarrisRyan graduated from the University of Utah in 2014 - he majored in Finance and minored in Leadership Studies. Ryan spent three years working at Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) where he led the coordination of all global request for proposals (RFPs) for potential and existing institutional business. He also assisted Client Portfolio Managers in communicating to clients the investment philosophy, process, and performance for the Fundamental Equity Value strategies within GSAM. More recently, Ryan was a founding member of a business intelligence startup company where he worked side by side with the CEO/Founder to develop strategic initiatives for the overall direction of the business intelligence platform. The company ran into one too many hurdles, so Ryan is now looking forward to pursuing an MBA, which he will start on this fall. Ryan enjoys learning, skiing, cycling, traveling the world, and speaking German.

Staci Warne
Microsoft Certified Trainer

Staci WarneStaci Warne is a highly skilled Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) with over 15 years of experience in training individuals at all skill levels. She obtained her MCT certification in 2008 and holds an array of other certifications such as Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and Microsoft Office master Instructor, and Ic3 Internet and Core computer instructor certifications. She has become a Google Partner and obtained her GAIQ, Google Analytics Certification in 2015. She has also partnered with Microsoft to be a reseller of cloud subscriptions. She has been a Financial Analyst and a lead technology trainer for the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco as well as a lead technology trainer at CompUSA. Staci has traveled around the country providing quality training, to thousands of professionals in businesses and organizations of all types.

Staci style is not to train "out of the book", like most training instructors, but offers individual insights, and augments course materials with her own "tips and tricks" to meet your needs.

How do I know what level of Excel to begin with?

We recommend that most students with no formal training in Excel start with EDTEC 412 Excel Beginner. If you already feel confident in the topics covered in Excel Beginner students can opt out and start with EDTEC 413 Excel Intermediate, with EDTEC 415 Excel Intermediate – Applied highly recommend. To opt into EDTEC 414 Excel Advanced please contact us at: 801-585-1455.
