Create Your Plate: Cooking Mindful Meals (Age 14-17)

Our hearts beet for healthy foods! From breakfast to dinner, the foods we choose make a difference. With the notion, food is fuel this camp focuses on whole foods and starting from scratch. Whether it is homemade pizza dough or yogurt, you are sure to cook up delicious and nutritious meals. At the end of the week, you will put your new skills to the test in a friendly competition where you will whip up a tasty meal with a mystery ingredient. Win or lose - we are rooting for you! Co-Sponsored with the Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology.

Learning Objectives:
  • Understand the concept of mindful eating by exploring how whole foods, nutrition, and ingredient choices affect health and energy
  • Develop foundational cooking skills through hands-on practice making homemade recipes such as pizza dough, yogurt, and balanced meals
  • Build confidence in the kitchen by applying new skills in a friendly end of week cooking challenge using a mystery ingredient

This is an in-person camp held in the HPR N Building, 250 S 1850 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84112. If you have food allergies, please be aware that Youth Education does not guarantee an allergen-free environment. Recipes may contain nuts, nut oils, shellfish, dairy, wheat and/or other food allergens. Please email youth@utah.edu in advance with questions. Reminder emails will be sent out before camp begins and will include location notes and other details.
