Mars Mission Robotics (Age 9-12)
Youth Education

Calling all future engineers and space explorers! In this hands-on STEM camp, students will step into the role of rover engineers tasked with designing a machine to study Mars. Each day focuses on a new challenge -- from learning about Mars and its geology to building robotic arms, testing for water, and creating a motorized rover. Campers will explore coding with Microbits, experiment with hydraulics, and tackle real-world engineering problems like safe landings and mobility. The week wraps up with "Launch Day," where students test rockets and program their rovers to complete Mars-inspired tasks.

Learning Objectives:
  • Understand key scientific concepts related to Mars, including geology, atmospheric conditions, and challenges of planetary exploration
  • Develop engineering and problem-solving skills by building robotic arms, hydraulic systems, rockets, and a motorized rover
  • Practice coding and programming using Microbits while completing Mars-themed tasks that simulate real rover engineering missions
