This four-session course is designed for aspiring artists who want to experience the joy of painting outdoors with either acrylic or oil paints. We will delve into the unique challenges and rewards of plein air oil painting, focusing on developing efficient techniques and a confident approach. The first session will be held indoors, covering essential materials, color mixing, and foundational techniques. The following three sessions will take place in inspiring locations around Salt Lake, where you'll learn to capture the fleeting beauty of the outdoors with oil paints.

Class Sections For Painting Outdoors: Fundamentals (LLART 455)
Summer 2025 Section 1, Starting on: 05/20/2025
This class takes place in person at the University Connected Learning and Continuing Education building (540 Arapeen Drive, SLC) for the first session, and at various locations for the following three. Locations will be announced at the first class. Students are responsible for their own materials; find the list online. We hate canceling classes, but sometimes there are forces outside of our control. Please keep this in mind as you purchase supplies and hang onto your receipts.
