Step into Utah's "Museum of Film" with Salt Lake Film Society's Classic Cinema series. Explore the evolution of cinema through restored, remasterd, 35 mm, archival, and anniversary celebration films that have shaped the genre and even cinema itself. Each week, choose from multiple screening options to view legendary titles such as The Phantom Carriage (US silent film, 1921), On The Waterfront (US 1954), Toute Une Nuit (Belgium 1982), Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (China/Taiwan 2000), The Fall (multiple countries 2008). Perfect for film lovers, historians, or anyone craving a deeper understanding of cinema's cultural impact, this course offers a thought-provoking tour through the vaults of cinematic history. Students will receive two film tickets for the festival, a one-year Silver Screen Membership (student level), and a digital guide with festival context, background on featured films, and reflection questions. After viewing two films of their choice, participants will join a post-festival online discussion to share insights and connect through the lens of cinema.
