Once upon a time, there was a girl called Cinderella (or Aschenputtel or Ye Xian or Pear Blossom). And she had a glass slipper (or a golden shoe or a gilded sandal). And her story changed the world. Did you know that versions of the Cinderella story exist in almost every culture across the world? From 1st century B.C. in Egypt to France in the 1600s to the slew of Cinderella retellings today; from Germany to China to Russia; this tale has become a part of our collective unconscious. This class explores the similarities and differences of this classic story, deep-diving into different versions and showing how a culture changes the core message. Will Cinderella live happily ever after? It all depends on where she's from; you'll have to learn more to see!
