George Saunders is one of the masters of contemporary American fiction. Witty, darkly funny, and profoundly moral, Saunders' stories and novels ask hard questions and resist easy answers. In anticipation of his Tanner Lecture on Human Values to be given at the U in April, we'll discuss three of his recent books: Lincoln in the Bardo, Liberation Day, and Vigil. This course is discussion-based; please read each book before class.
