A Stroll Through Utah Architecture: Understanding the Evolution of Architectural Ideas
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

In this class we will stroll (virtually) through a history of Utah architecture from the earliest to the present. Along the way, we will stop to examine the economic, material, sociocultural, environmental, technological, and other factors that have influenced the evolution of how buildings in Utah have looked. We will ponder intriguing questions like: What prompted the Ancient Puebloans to build cliff dwellings? Why is Thomas Jefferson lurking in Utah's civic buildings? How did the design of churches change in the 20th century (or not)--and why? No expertise or experience in architecture required. Just an interest in what we see around us.
